Sunscreen 2020

Summer is almost upon us I think.  The weather is getting warmer and we are beginning to stagger outdoors after weeks of quarantine. It’s a good time to chat again about the importance of sunscreen. 

One in five people will develop skin cancer in their lifetime. The  UVA/UVB rays are harmful and put you at risk for developing skin cancer. That is why it is important to apply and reapply (at regular intervals) sunscreen everyday whether it’s hot, cold, rainy or cloudy and even if you are indoors yep you read that right even when indoors. 

Some things to keep in mind: 

The kind of sunscreen formulation is personal preference liquid, powder, spray, stick etc. 

Look for active ingredients like zinc oxide & or titanium dioxide. 

Apply at minimum SPF 30 (I use SPF 50) 

Reapply every 2 hours especially when outside. 

Ensure you apply on all exposed skin and don’t forget the scalp, lips and feet. 

These days there are mists with SPF to help with fuss free reapplication over makeup. 

Being a women of color I used to have issues finding sunscreen with grey/ white cast on my face.  Some I’ve used over the years have been @aveenous Protect and Hydrate, @shiseido Clear stick & @sunbum . Lately I have been liking a few different ones like @coola Classic Organic Sunscreen Lotion & Countersun Mineral sunscreen by @beautycounter .  Do your research on the ingredients/brands and find one that works for you and keep you and your family protected year around.  If you have question consult a dermatologist for advice. ***A note with so much hype and “clean”products everywhere pay attention to all ingredients not all clean is clean.*** ***Always patch test prior to using any product and consult a doctor for professional advice*** Follow me on:
